The National Axe Throwing Federation was recently featured in USA Today, where they state that axe throwing could become the next hot entertainment trend.
The article described the NATF and axe throwing as "... a competitive sport with more than 4,000 leagues in 50 cities across five countries."
Nick LaFace, an administrator for the NATF explained that "the ax-throwing company [BATL] started by Matt Wilson, who is widely considered the founder of the indoor sport. Wilson started the throwing in his Toronto backyard before creating a company and launching competitive leagues... 12 years later, the sport has exploded". Furthermore, Nick believes that "there is something primitive about throwing an ax that is extremely satisfying, especially when you hit a target.”

The National Axe Throwing Federation was recently featured on the National Public Radio (NPR).
The piece discussed the growing trend of axe throwing across North America, as well as featuring the newest NATF member, Fling Milwaukee.
They discussed Fling Milwaukee as "... inside a family recreation center, a place with traditional arcade games. To keep other customers safe from flying hatchets, the hurlers are sectioned off in throwing lanes surrounded by a 16-foot-tall chain link fence"
They continue to discuss the history of axe throwing and it's inception by Matt Wilson in Toronto with the Backyard Axe Throwing League by stating that "indoor ax throwing began more than a decade ago when Canadian Matt Wilson and friends took their favorite outdoor activity inside and started ax-throwing bars in Canada and the U.S. They now run 14 locations named BATL and are opening in more cities soon. Wilson says indoor ax throwing is also becoming popular in Europe."

Matt Wilson, the founder of the sport of urban axe throwing, The Backyard Axe Throwing League (BATL) and the National Axe Throwing Federation was recently featured in the Star Ledger + NJ.com.
The Star Ledger described Matt Wilson as the father of urban axe throwing. Wilson explained that he thins that the sport "...speaks to something very primal in all of us... It's a very visceral activity. It's almost artistic... incredibly satisfying."
